Even his gaze spoke of sparks and heat, warm from the hues of gold within his irises. “It’s exactly what it sounds like. You’ll hate it, of course. It’s very brut-ish.” A sardonic smile came and went so quickly I almost missed it. “The males in attendance consist almost entirely of Alpha’s and Beta’s. They are the Hunters. As for the women, they come in a variety. From what I hear invitations are highly coveted. The women are called Does.” Another spin and I landed in Caius’s arms, my gown fluttering around my ankles. “At midnight the Does are released. They have a ten-minute head start before the Hunters go after them.”

One male stood up and finally three stood, but when the first two saw a smartly dressed wolf at the back stand up, they promptly sat. “That Gerald, we’ll at least he’s aged well.” “I, Gerald Holt Alpha of the Blackwood Wolves, pick up this hunt. April Barra, Beta of the Craven Fang. Your single days are numbered.” His face broke out into a grin of pure pleasure. “Run!” April didn’t respond in words. He needed to prepare for Hunting & Dancing, that's what Lynede told me last night. Our traditional event, Hunting& Dancing, is only held after Alpha's 20th birthday. It started as a mean to assist Alpha in finding his mate. The event is divided into two parts, as you might guess based on his name. And during this time, the females are free to relax, sip drinks, and even place bets on who will be the king of the hunt this year. After a grueling and intense hunt, it's finally time for the males to ask their companions to dance,

The door opened, and a group of women entered. I saw Beta Frank’s wife and some female elders.

The Caucus of Hunters was a tight-knit group of representatives from the best Hunter families. They consisted of seven members from different families across the New York metropolis, and acted as the governing body for the race of Hunters present in the city. He had been away on some Hunter business concerning the dead bodies when Maddie had been brought into the Manor, so she hadn't had the liberty of meeting the man.

She still needs Lilly’s pity Aria returned home. She found Dave sitting alone in the living room. Their eyes met. “You're late.” “I know.” “Did you eat?” The question escaped him before he could stop it. Aria blinked several times. Trying to digest his question. “Nnnnnnno.” Dave looked toward the dining room. “Come.” She followed him, confused. Aria sat beside him, Dave watched her quietly.
