Cal, chuckled to himself, thinking that things would soon become very interesting. “Alpha Cal, do you accept this position or not?” The Kingmaker continued as if he were oblivious to the tensed undercurrent flowing around him. Cal boldly stepped forward and puffed out his broad chest with full confidence. “I, Cal Rouges of the house of Hank, a descendant of Maku, accept the order of my Alpha and the Blessings of the Moon Mother.” “Good.” The Kingmaker looked up and gazed at the crowd. “Any objections?” He asked.

he demanded, voice barely above a whisper. "From a man named Blackwood," Diego said as he slid into the booth beside Sarah. Reynolds closed his eyes briefly. "Damien Blackwood. I should have known he'd surface again." "You know him?" Sarah asked. "Unfortunately," Reynolds confirmed. "Ex-CIA black ops director. Specialized in making problems disappear. His operations had unlimited funding and zero oversight." "And now he's running Kingmaker," Diego pressed. Reynolds glanced between them. "You two have no idea what you've stumbled into, do you?" He sighed heavily. "Kingmaker isn't an operation. It's a person."

She felt like she was going to be eaten alive if she looked into them for too long. "H-hello," she stammered, dropping her head under the intensity of his gaze. "My name is Kendra Wilder." "Miss Wilder, it is a pleasure to meet you," the other man, whose gaze isn't still consuming me, said as he stood up, offering his hand to her. She took it nervously, though she gave it a firm shake. "My name is Beta Jax Clyde. I am the King's right hand."

The King’s Broken Oath

The King’s Broken Oath

He walked to the window. Looked out over the city. Lights flickered below. Alive. Unaware. A faint, humorless smile touched his lips. “So…” His voice was low. Almost thoughtful. “The king of the underground.” A pause. His eyes darkened slightly. “My son.” The words came easier this time. Not softer. But accepted. His head tilted slightly. “If he rules…” A breath. “Then I rule.” Not dominance. Not greed. Something else. Recognition. Blood. Legacy.

The Heir Maker's Exit

The Heir Maker's Exit

He thought back to the fortune that his grandfather had once read. "Thea is the catalyst." Well, the catalyst had gone into the Fenton family's pot, and what it brewed was overwhelming wealth. Meanwhile, the Schuyler family's pot was scorched, spoiled, and extinguished beyond saving. … In the Fenton Residence's bedroom, I leaned in Stephen's arms, listening to the children playing in the living room. From that day on, I was no one's tool nor possession. I was simply myself.

“So, how do I attract them? Do I go to them or do something fantasy?” She glanced at me and her lips rose in a subtle sneer. “We're the West, we don't bow to people. People bow to us.” She stayed silent for a moment. “They may seem to have those fancy titles, but it holds nothing in this time and age, where power is no longer controlled by royal blood, fame, and wealth, but Kingmakers.” I blinked again and again… The word sounded familiar…Kingmaker— Ah, Detroit. He'd told me he was a Kingmaker, a black card.

The was a very enjoyable read. The story didn’t drag, didn’t go off in a thousand directions, didn’t try to introduce a million characters to drag the book out (like my 1st book on this app that’s still ongoing). This story makes me want to read all her stories. I highly recommend this book & author

The kingmaker’s asset

The kingmaker’s asset

His thoughts fractured memories of his mother humming softly while she cooked, her hands smoothing his hair when nightmares woke him, her breaking slowly after his father died. He had promised to take care of her. His vision blurred but he refused to let the tears flow. “I don’t want to lie,” he said hoarsely. “I don’t want to be…” “An asset?” Dexter supplied. Charlie flinched. Dexter’s voice softened, just a fraction. “You already are,” he said. “You just don’t get paid for it yet.” Silence pressed in from all sides. The room felt smaller. The walls closer. Charlie’s breath came shallow, uneven. He tasted salt and metal and fear. He hadn’t noticed how his body was shaking.

Frequently Asked Questions

As a fantasy book enthusiast, I've delved deep into the lore of 'The Kingmaker' series. The author is Toby Clements, who crafted this gripping historical fiction set during the Wars of the Roses. His writing brings to life the turbulent era with vivid detail and compelling characters. I especially admire how he blends real historical events with personal drama, making the past feel immediate and alive. The series starts with 'Kingmaker: Winter Pilgrims,' and it's a fantastic read for anyone who loves medieval history mixed with intense storytelling.

Toby Clements has a knack for making complex historical periods accessible without dumbing them down. His characters feel real, their struggles palpable, and the political intrigue keeps you hooked. If you're into books like 'The Pillars of the Earth' or 'Game of Thrones,' you'll likely enjoy his work. The way he handles themes of loyalty, betrayal, and survival is masterful. It's no surprise his books have garnered such a dedicated following among historical fiction fans.
