Proserpina The car speeded along now since the road leading to the lake house was generally empty. From what I recalled, Lucien had bought up most of the property surrounding the house to ensure that we would have our privacy. As we turned into the Chapter driveway and reached the lake house, perched on the banks of the pristine, clean waters of the lake, I smiled. I had fallen in love with the house, a house that Schwartz had gifted us. And I blushed as I thought of how I had, unsuccessfully, tried my hand at being a Dominatrix, here, in this very house.

Lake didn't expect to win but yes, he won this bet and he would rub it in Storm's face till he got agitated. "It's fine okay," Storm blurted and waved his hands over his head. "You won. Happy?" Lake rose and did their infamous chicken dance. "Nah, I'm not happy. I'm freaking proud of myself." Storm lowered his head and muttered, "yeah, don't get too comfortable." They had placed a bet on which house their mother would pick for them to live in. Storm had gone for a beach house while Lake had gone for a house not too big and not too small but comfortable and right in the middle of town.

"Don't you have your room? Go lie down there." Lake glances at him for a second, then looks back the book she's holding. "I'm reading. I will go back when I finish this book. And no offense, but I couldn't like the guest room. It was kinda_ horror movies type room." Mahone starts to unbutton his shirt, stepping to his wardrobe. "It's Uncle Kramer's house, so no offense is taken. What are you reading anyway, at night? Sone steamy CEO romance? Or cute girl's exaggerated first kiss?"

She expected a smile from me in response to her weak attempt at humor, but when I remained unchanged her smile dwindled. We got to the infamous lake house. It had a cedar shingle exterior painted a soft cream, large windows, a porch wrapped around the building, a wooden dock extending into the still waters of the lake with a small rowboat tied to its end, and the occasional splash of a fish jumping from the water. My gaze shifted to the top floor with dormer windows, and I wondered if the alpha had seen us. Or was he in his wolf form in the woods, surrounded by pine, spruce, oak, and maple trees scattered along the shoreline?

This is going to be a long drive, to my lake house. &&&

“It’s business. You leave now.” Aria stood up. Her legs felt weak. She didn't say goodbye. She walked to the elevator, her back straight, refusing to cry. She was the invisible sister. Invisible people didn’t make scenes. They just disappeared. The Lake House was a rotting corpse of a building. It sat on the edge of a black, still lake, surrounded by encroaching pines that blocked out the sky. The air smelled of mold and damp earth. Inside, it was a maze of dust sheets and shadows.

She squeezed her muscles tighter, praying the thong would hold. Inside, the lake house smelled of pine and fresh linen. The open-plan living room and kitchen overlooked the sparkling water, floor-to-ceiling windows letting in the late afternoon light. Tyler had already started prepping for the barbecue—burgers, corn, cold beers in the fridge. Sweet, vanilla Tyler, always the perfect host. Maya helped him set the table, her mind racing with excuses for why she might disappear for “walks” or “naps.”

I'm not even sure I understand what love truly is… **** The lake house was very beautiful and bigger than I thought. It was well isolated with no other houses around it. It had a huge glass window that you couldn't see from outside. It was two stories tall and it was surrounded by thick trees. It was still dark when we got there, I wasn't sure what time it was but I was really hungry and tired. Don't blame me...I am always hungry :) Theo and Milo drove off after dropping us off. I was surprised because I thought they would be staying with us, but apparently, they have a different place and would be here later in the day. I will really miss their company.

"Choose the house, Leo. Pick the place where we’re going to grow old. Tell us where you want your studio. Tell us what color you want the bedroom. It’s your future. We’re just the ones making sure no one takes it away from you." I looked at the blueprints on the table. They looked like a map of my life—laid out, decided, and bought. I felt a surge of anger, then a wave of exhaustion, and finally, that familiar, creeping sense of relief. "The one with the lake," I said, my voice barely a whisper. "The light... it would be good for the oils." Ivan smiled, a genuine, bright expression that reached his eyes. "The lake house it is. I'll call the lawyers this afternoon."
