My mind felt dizzy with the overwhelming sense of helplessness.
We stopped in front of the door.
Up close, I saw what I’d missed earlier. There was a seamless panel in the wall. The third lady reached toward the frame and pressed a spot that didn’t look any different from the rest. A small section slid open with a soft click, revealing a keypad. She tapped in a code without hesitation, and the door opened smoothly.
Immediately, I twisted out of her hold and lunged left, toward the other door I’d seen earlier. With a small, desperate push, the door gave way, a jolt of surprise running through me.
