He staggered backward, clutching his heart, a sudden, inexplicable sense of absolute emptiness washing over his soul. Tatsumi’s body went completely limp. The golden light in her eyes flickered, dimmed, and finally vanished entirely, staring blankly up at the noon sky. Her blood quickly pooled across the white fabric of her dress, staining the wood beneath her. The thousands of pack members in the courtyard stood in stunned, absolute silence for three agonizing seconds, staring at the fallen Omega. Then, a single voice cheered, and within moments, the entire square erupted into a roaring, fanatical frenzy.

Because going back is not an option. It never was. My fingers tightened around the edge of my seat as another thought slipped in. Omega. The word sat heavy in my chest. Not just any omega.
