And smiled again.
“You must be the boy.”
Zane’s stomach tightened. “Zane.”
Ivan let the name roll over his tongue like wine. “Zane. The name that set the house on fire.”
He began to climb the steps, not fast, not slow, just enough to make Zane aware of every breath.
“Tell me, Zane,” Ivan said, his eyes never leaving Zane's, “do you plan to survive this place, or are you just here to watch it crumble?”
