You won't refuse, will you?" There was smug satisfaction in his eyes as he said that. He raised his hand almost leisurely, and the ring on his finger gleamed under the sunlight. Josephine wore the exact same one. Something bitter lodged in my throat, and I clenched the papers in my hand. "What if I refuse?"

I didn't know what she thought she was winning, but it was like watching a strutting peacock without the feathers. I leaned against the wall, my head throbbing where she'd hit me earlier. The dizziness from having eight tubes of blood drawn lingered. The ground beneath my feet felt wobbly, as though I were standing on cotton. About 20 minutes later, a notification popped up on the officer's computer. The video file had been transferred.

Since I was already here, I might as well play along. I slowly walked behind them until a familiar voice called out to me. “If it isn’t Dylan! It’s been a while!” I turned around. It was my best friend from my time in the army and Nia’s most important business partner, Gordon Wayne. I hurriedly stopped and joked with him. “It has been a while! I’m still waiting for that lunch you owe me!” Gordon burst out laughing. “Haha, you haven’t changed at all!” Nia turned around at the sound of our voices and rushed over, punching me in the back. To Gordon, she was all smiles. “Don’t be so rude to Mr. Wayne! We should be the ones treating him to lunch!”

When I regained consciousness, I was standing in an entirely new world. A familiar male voice echoed beside me. “Thank you, Olivia. It’s thanks to you that we can continue our experiment. We admire your kindness, your forgiveness, and your calmness. We formally invite you to become an interdimensional traveler. As your reward, you will be able to travel across different worlds and live different lives. None of your emotions will ever be punished by the System.” The next second, a communication screen appeared in front of me, and I was successfully connected.

I said slowly. After a long pause, Mom replied casually, "Fine. You’ve already taken care of Suri’s school transfer anyway. If you’ve got nothing else to do, hurry back to your Halcyon City. If you don’t work, you don’t earn money. Don’t expect me to support you."

"That’s a given." His mouth descends on mine again, but this kiss is different. It’s not an apology anymore. It’s a claiming. His hands move from my waist, sliding up my sides, leaving a trail of heat through the thin fabric of my shirt. His fingers find the hem and tug it upward. I lift my arms, letting him pull it over my head and toss it aside. The cool cabin air whispers over my skin, raising goosebumps, but his gaze is like a physical flame.
