Marked by Moon Fire
“I’m not the Queen! Please, let me be!”
Her voice cracked, echoing painfully in the confined space. The sound made both Nyssa and Alice flinch. The woman grabbed the edge of a large rock and pulled herself behind it, crouching low as if it could hide her from the world.
Nyssa’s heart raced. “Please, calm down,” she said softly, raising her hands in surrender as she took a careful step toward her. “We’re not going to hurt you.”
But the woman’s cries only grew louder, more desperate. “No! No! I’m not a Queen!” she screamed, clutching her head. “I am a whore!”
