Rise Of The Silver Wolf

Total quiet covered me along with the strong pain on my side from landing hard on the ground.
I lay still, curled up on the cold, hard earth. The only thing holding me to real was the burning, clear hurt growing across my ribs and hip from the awkward fall. It was a good pain, in a bad way—a body sign that I was still real, still taking space, still alive. The quiet pushed in, a heavy, choking load, an empty space waiting for the last, bad mark. I listened with an urgency that pulled every nerve, waiting for the noise that would mean the end, either mine or theirs. But there was only the cold, and the breaking, complete quiet.
