Again and again.
And then, on the tenth attempt, I came face to face with someone unexpected.
Luna.
She looked awful. Gaunt, exhausted—this time, she actually looked like someone with a terminal illness.
Clutching her stomach, she took slow, deliberate steps toward me.
“I’m pregnant. The baby is William’s.”
“Oh.”
That was all I said.
She stared at me, desperately searching my face for any sign of emotion. Any flicker of jealousy.
