All I didn't was to run with all the strength I could presently build. Soon, I reached a road. The place was dark, only the bright moon serving as an illuminant to direct my path. A path that was unknown. The friction between my feet and the asphalt was a huge one. I was frightened, confused, glad that I was able to escape them. "Hurry up! Get her!" They cried further. I took a turn to the next street. And why was this place so silent? Above my head, they were tall palm trees standing on each side of the road. The place was void, seeming as if this empty road led to nowhere.

He laughed to himself and steeled himself even more. After what felt like a few years of walking to him he finally saw it. The crossroad. The roads were dusty yellow with a few cracks travelling through them. The man stood on the left side of the road where at the edge of it stood an old wooden sign post that threatened to fall at any moment. The signs were pointing towards a direction with the names on them. The forwards, left, right arrows read ‘NOWHERE’, while the last arrow which pointed towards the road that he came from read, ‘MAYBE SOMEWHERE’.

I can’t describe the elation and aching chest pain it gives me. The truck is long gone, and I stare off in the direction it went, along a long road that curves off out of sight, and I gaze both ways, trying to figure out which would be the shortest route to a town. One might be close; one might not. Or maybe I’m being too hopeful, and it stretches for miles either way with nothing at all. If I have any chance of being rescued, I have to stick to the tarmac and not stray. Roads mean people, and people mean being saved. I am not going to give up. I get to my feet and follow the truck's route, hoping it’s the right choice.
