It was a fall. One blink I was staring at the dark. The next, I was standing in a sky that wasn’t a sky at all. Starless. Bottomless. A vast, black expanse stretching in every direction, no horizon, no ground. Except there was something. A web. Massive, sprawling, its threads thicker than any spider’s silk, glossy black and pulsing faintly with an inner, sick light. It stretched across the void, knots glistening where lines intersected—echoes of the seer’s map, only made flesh.

Chapter 25 Sunless Sea The harbor of Oakhaven had become a place of myth and nightmare. The water was no longer a liquid; it was a thick, viscous ink that seemed to swallow the light of the stars. The mist had coalesced into a single, massive vortex at the center of the bay, a swirling wall of white that reached into the clouds. At the heart of the vortex lay the Sunless Sea a rift between the physical world and the Hollow, a place where time and space were governed by the hunger of the shadows.

It sat high up on a cliffside that rose high above the sea, the crashing waves thundered against the rock and the pounding of the waves spoke of death from its depths. There was no snow on the ground, the north was the only one to still be affected by the snow, and only a cold wind whipped across the land. Adelaides hair whipped across her face as they stood on the beach. Adam shifted on his feet beside her and she felt his nervousness as his eyes darted around his surroundings. The cold air bit into her skin and spray from the sea hit her in a refreshing wash. It would have been peaceful if it didn’t hold a sinister tinge to the air.

Flustered, Lara dropped down into her seat. One of the maids had awakened her and she hadn’t had much time to get ready. When she glanced up again, Christophe’s brilliant golden eyes were wandering with indolent satisfaction over her in a look as unashamedly physical as a caress. A deep flush of awareness colored her skin, making her desperately conscious of the unfamiliar ache between her thighs.

The sea, which was as solid as a smooth mirror, was now covered with ripples like scales. "Nine Changes of Stars!" Caspian's counterattack was like a storm and waves without stopping. He raised his right hand and the starlight gathered on his fingertips. In an instant, the light was as vast as the sea. With a wave of his arm, endless starlight rushed out, causing the chains all over the sky to shake continuously, like golden snakes dancing wildly. That type of trembling and the type of spasm were as if the next moment it would completely collapse, completely explode.

He frowned slightly when he noticed how the corners of my eyes were red. "Were you crying?" I shook my head. "Some dust fell into my eyes." "Mm," he responded curtly. Sean did not even bother to point out how flimsy my excuse was. Perhaps it was because he was in a hurry to leave. So, he could not even be bothered. Sean changed his clothes, and something slipped out of his pocket. I picked it up and saw that it was a receipt from a restaurant. He froze for a moment. Then, he took the receipt, crumpled it up, and threw it into the dustbin. "I had a meal with the director recently. It was my treat."
