Lands of Lost Borders: A Journey on the Silk Road, Kate Harris... The Innocents Abroad, Mark Twain... A whole stack of Bill Bryson titles... Bit of a theme going on there. Wonder if she wants to travel? Get back to the point... "Michael, I mean no offence, but I have to say this. I know they are your family, but you need to keep those dried-up harpies you call aunts either under control or away from Charlotte.

They had followed a lone traveler into the mountains, meaning to rob him. The traveler had turned the tables. He’d ambushed all four. Killed some. Wounded the rest. Only one had escaped to ride back screaming into town. When Ben pressed her about the traveler’s identity, the barmaid clammed up. Refused to speak. But Ben was certain she knew him or had seen him before. There was no proof it was Julian. The traveler had appeared alone. At first light we spread out in a wide arc, searching for sign. And we found it.

He goes on. “When the company scaled, there were weeks I didn’t use my apartment except to change clothes. The only place that felt… tolerable was a bookstore at two a.m.—the all-night kind. Then: "The City of Echoes is not what it once was." Silence. Then: "Few who enter return unchanged." The atmosphere shifted. Immediately. Then Ava frowned. Then: "What does that mean?" The traveler smiled. Then: "It means exactly what it sounds like." God. No. Fair. Absolutely not. Reasonable honestly. Then he began walking away. Then Thomas spoke. Then: "Wait." The traveler stopped. Then: "Who are you?" A long silence followed. Then the old man looked back. Then smiled. Then: "A friend."

"I am called the Wanderer. I have traveled across the void between worlds, searching for the one who carries the bridge." "You have found her." "Yes. I have found you. And I have come with a request." I did not trust the Wanderer. There was nothing hostile in its demeanor, nothing threatening in its presence. But I had learned that appearances could be deceiving. Hope smiled. "We had help." The traveler laughed softly. "So did I." The answer surprised us all. The traveler looked along the endless roads. "My first journey began because someone I had never met chose to trust me." The golden roads shimmered. "I simply kept walking." Silence settled peacefully. Noah finally found his voice. "Who are you?" The traveler looked at him kindly. Then shook their head. "My name is no longer important." A pause. "What matters..." The lantern beside them brightened.

Time had no meaning there. “You lost your interest in the world or even living the best.” “I can’t even get out of this cage!” Elena screamed. She’d been furious. This visitor came just to slap what she’s got so badly. Then, there she was again. She saw the little girl with the red hood and ponytail. “You can talk to people outside your cage. You are a traveler,” the little girl said. “Who are you?” “That’s not important,” the girl replied. “But, I’m just as you are – a traveler.”

For William, both he and his wife seemed to have caught whatever illness that one too was. Their daughter Isabel had gone on a three month road trip with her friends and boyfriend. They wanted some time off to explore Ghana before they all branched off to the different universities they had chosen to further their studies. This meant that the two of them were home alone. William smirked at the thought. He was going to take full advantage of the opportunity. He checked the hall, the kitchen, the study, but he saw no sign of his wife. Figuring she had gone upstairs for a little nap, he climbed the stairs and headed for their bedroom.

"Need company on the trail?" Lena, Sara, and Tom joined. "One last trip with the elders. We come along." The traveler, named Finn, sat down. "My pack lives far west. Got turned around during storms. Threats on the roads." Dane nodded. "We guide you back. Reflect on our journey while we walk. Stories help the miles pass." Ezra packed light bags. "Final adventure feels right. Love, battles, and shaping future. All of it." They set out brisk. Trail talk started immediately.
