Finally healed, the wolf lured his friend out of the flock as his food, only to be touched by the little lamb and become real friends with her. I played the silly little blind girl lamb. Aurora was the limping wolf boy.

girl had been the only thing keeping the sun in their sky. I reached out my hand, and a small, white wolf made of pure frost crystallized in the air above my palm. It let out a silent howl before dissipating into the wind, carrying my command to the very roots of the earth. "Chapter three is closed," I whispered to the night. "The winter has only just begun."

What if, the second I let my guard down and accept him, he shows his true colours and suddenly he becomes everything I feared?" My voice lowers to a whisper. “He’s still a wolf, not a sheep. And I’ve heard the saying—‘a wolf in sheep’s clothing". Silence.

"That's enough of this. I never deceived you; if anything, I've always fulfilled your wishes," I asserted, hoping he would abandon this charade.

My wolf, lifted her head proudly. Alpha nodded and shifted too, his black wolf massive and powerful. The other wolves followed, forming a protective circle around us. Are you ready? Alpha’s voice echoed through the link. I am, I replied, though my heart pounded in my chest. Together, we stepped into the light. The moment my paws touched the glowing ground, warmth spread through my body. Everything around us began to change. The trees shimmered, their leaves turning silver. The air filled with soft whispers — voices of spirits, singing in a language I didn’t understand.

But I did. Outside the window the dark road moved past and ahead of us somewhere the territory waited with its walls and its pack and its four thousand wolves who all felt the incomplete bond the same way their Alpha felt it and had been feeling it since the night of Presentation when their king said three words and a girl nodded and walked out. My wrist pulsed once. Warm and steady. Lyra agreeing with something, though I could not have said what. END OF CHAPTER 12

He could feel her soul humming against his. "Whatever we want," Victor said. He looked at the blank horizon. "Chapter One," Victor whispered. The ground began to grow. But behind them, a door remained open. In the ruins of London, a single golden scroll lay in the ash. A hand reached down and picked it up. A hand covered in silver fur. "It’s not over," the wolf whispered. The wolf turned the page. The scroll was blank. "Write," a voice said from the dark.
