"You didn't know that every time you defended her and blamed me, it felt like a knife carving through my heart. "You didn't know that while you two chased thrills and soaked up applause from extreme sports, I was the one paying the price. I was the one dying for it." Every word hit like a hammer. His face drained of color. His whole body shook. "No... Violet wasn't like that. She was innocent. She—" "Innocent?" I cut him off. "Fine. Let me show you how innocent she really was."

I was that boy. Not a day has passed that I haven’t borne the wretched burden of grief for my arrogance and stupidity. Some say I’ve already paid the price- and I did suffer a great deal in the early days, more than any child should bear- but I don’t agree.
