“You know,” I called out, “laughter suits you. You should try it again sometime. Preferably without the homicide threats.”
He stopped at the door, back still facing me. “Laughter,” he repeated, almost to himself.
Then he turned around, eyes narrowing. “You think I’m funny, Rivera?”
“I think you can be. In a very terrifying way.”
He stepped closer, each stride measured, deliberate, like a predator deciding whether to toy with its prey.
