A piece of paper fluttered out. It was a drawing. Crayons on construction paper. Catherine picked it up, and her blood ran cold. The drawing showed two stick figures standing on a jagged white line (the ice). One was labelled "Daddy," drawn in blue. The other was labelled "Sad Man," drawn in red. They were fighting. But above them, the sky was ripped open. A black hole was drawn in the clouds. And coming out of the hole wasn't light. It was a tentacle. A massive, black, spiraling limb covered in eyes.

Eventually, it became an example for the 6-year-old. "Hmmm yummy, right?" Tessa asked again when she saw Agatha eagerly eating her ice cream. "Agatha looks, aunty." Tessa turned Agatha's drawing sheet over and tried to draw on the blank sheet using crayons. Despite Tessa's poor drawing skills, Tessa drew two women. In a small version and one in an adult version, the two people were Tessa and Agatha's present-day foreshadowing. Tessa also drew the umbrella held by her character there.

“He came here one day and talked to us. He said we should write you letters because you were sad. And outside, the world was welcome to keep burning itself down.

I finally found a blank space and started to draw, taking my mind off everything including the man sitting across me.
