After the plates were cleared, it was time for the ribbon ceremony. The fiddle stopped and the whole square went quiet, faces gathered in the firelight, waiting. My heart was pounding, but with Dominic’s pulse slow and steady through the bond, I felt a little calmer.
The ribbon was a deep Goldenveil blue, old and soft, the kind of thing that had clearly tied a hundred pairs of hands before ours. The pack elder wound it around our wrists in a pattern too quick to follow, knotted it once, and stepped back.
