Marked for Neither

Marked for Neither

On the day of the marking ceremony, Sabrina Carter returned to the pack. My fated mate and my childhood friend both abandoned me at the same time to welcome her. "Nicole, we can redo the ceremony another day." "Sabrina needs us more right now." After saying that, they turned and walked away without a single glance back. The two men who once swore they loved me turned my most anticipated wedding into a public joke. I stood there alone while everyone pointed, whispered, and laughed. Then, Sabrina posted a photo on Instagram, showing off how she was being doted on by both the pack Alpha and Beta. Every call I made to the two men was rejected again and again. In the photo, the ring that symbolized the Luna was on her finger. And Charlie Spencer had fastened the moonstone protection necklace, the one meant for me, around her neck instead. That was the moment something inside me finally broke for good. I bought a bond severing potion. I was done holding on. I was going to sever my mate bond with Joshua Ford.

Falling for You

Falling for You

Fake it 'til you make it has been the motto I live by since my mother died. I'm also doing a really bad job at the making it part. The night we met, I was at my lowest. But you gave me a reason to feel happy again. For the first time in over a year, I was optimistic. You and I? We're the same. Don't form attachments. Follow the rules. Don't dream of a future. Too bad our hearts wouldn't listen. And this storm we're going through? The one that threatens to rip us apart? It doesn't care that I'm falling for you. Falling for You is created by Jennifer Van Wyk, an eGlobal Creative Publishing author.

Frequently Asked Questions

one thing people consistently misunderstand is that a heartstopping meet-cute is secondary to giving both characters a life outside the romance. A character who exists only to pine after someone else is a shadow. Readers stay for the glimpses of that external world—the protagonist stressing about their startup failing, their complicated family dinners, their passion for restoring old motorcycles. The tension comes from watching the romance become a priority that conflicts with these other, established priorities. That's where the real, messy choices happen.

Another trap is writing 'perfect' characters. Flaws shouldn't be cute quirks, like 'she's clumsy!' A genuine flaw is something that actively sabotages their chance at happiness. Maybe he's so conflict-averse he'll ghost at the first sign of trouble. Maybe her pride prevents her from ever admitting she's wrong. The other character's journey isn't about fixing that flaw, but about learning to navigate around it, or loving them despite it, which is infinitely more satisfying.

Finally, a lot of drafts I see rely on internal monologue to convey feelings: 'He made my heart flutter.' That's telling. Instead, show the disorientation. Maybe she walks into a lamppost after he smiles at her. Maybe he meticulously plans a date based on one offhand comment she made six weeks ago. Let the reader assemble the emotional truth from these little, concrete actions. The payoff when one character finally verbalizes what we've all been seeing is electric.
