“I’ve been a soldier for most of the last five years,” he replied inspecting the kitchen cupboards and drawers with a different purpose to Meguitte, who had selected the bowls, pots, and utensils that she had set upon the bench. Toby’s interest was on the knives and big pans, testing the sharpness and judging the weight in his hand thoughtfully. “It’s the only thing I’m good at. I can think like a soldier for you, Aislen,” he flushed slightly. “And make sure that these warehouses are defensible. Ideally, we will escape notice, but if they do locate us, I want us to have a way to hold them off and a way out to safety.”
