The Billionaire's Regret
I reply dryly.
She laughs, the sound bright, bouncing off the cabinets.
I grab some paper towels, dry her hands, then move to the catering tray. “Okay, today’s menu: vegetable quiche, bread, tiny salad, yogurt. What do you want?”
“Gelato,” she answers on reflex.
I look at her.
She blinks, then gives a guilty smile. “Okay, okay. Quiche. But the one with a lot of cheese.”
I place a slice of quiche on a small plate, add two squares of focaccia, then one yogurt. I know she won’t finish everything, but the ritual matters: something that doesn’t come from a man in a black coat with an Italian accent.
