The Mate Agreement
I didn’t think the helicopter would get here this fast.
Lexie puts on her baseball cap backwards and gives up on the destroyed car radio. She steps out of the car, pocketing the keys in her multicolored hippie maxi skirt.
Out the window, I watch the helicopter descend, sending dust flying up in the air all around. An elderly man in a black suit exits the chopper the second it lands, crouching low to avoiding the spinning blades. Behind him, two paramedics in white follow, jogging towards the car. The man, who I’m guessing must be Alberto, pauses to talk to William, bowing.
