For the first time in days, she spoke to him gently.
Something in Jack's chest stirred. "Jess, can we—"
"No." Her rejection came swiftly. "You and I are over. Let's part ways peacefully. But if you keep clinging to me like this, I'll find you disgusting."
Disgusting.
Jack hadn't expected that.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something—anything—but the indifference in her gaze swallowed all his words before they could form. In the end, all that remained was a single, muted sentence.
"Rest well. Your health comes first."
