This was a whole different level of entitlement and laziness. Most of my cousins hadn’t even bothered to wish me a happy birthday; I guess I was the fool who always tried to buy a small gift for everyone’s else’s special day. Well, never again. Except for Roy and Ma, I don’t owe anyone my loyalty. Casting the negativity aside, I’m simply glad I have the day off from work today. As I’m drying my hands on the torn dish towel, the notification bell from my phone blares in the room. I pick up the phone and groan. The message reads:

If he says no, I’m not sure what I’ll do but my heart won’t be able to handle the rejection. “Cal, it can be a birthday gift to me.” “Happy birthday.” I shrug. “I don’t really like celebrating it today.”

"Oh! Why do I start to express my feelings? It's really not like my style! I hate it, woo-woo..." "I originally wanted to delete these words, but it really took me a few minutes to type them. Anyway, you aren't an outsider. In this special day, you won't mind me expressing my feelings over the years, right? Ha-ha!" "Well, I won't say anything more. Elizabeth, happy birthday! May gladness fill you every hour on this special day! I wish you a happy life and sweet love. You deserve everything wonderful in this world! I love you so much!"

So, that was it. Camelia wasn’t busy at work. She was celebrating Grayson's birthday with him. Before I knew it, tears slid down my cheeks. I shook as I dialed her number, wanting answers. The call connected quickly.
