VESPERA
“We’ve got a lot to talk about, Ezekiel. A lot.”
With that, Trent sped off, leaving Ezekiel to return to the trunk. Vespera was hunched over her phone, fingers trembling as she typed a message, probably to Jerry or her manager.
She seemed fragile, the calm strategist stripped away by the pure trauma of the night.
When she heard him approach, she looked up. The tears she had been holding back finally rolled down her cheeks.
Ezekiel felt a strange, sharp flutter in his chest, a protective instinct he thought he had lost three years ago. He looked away, feeling uneasy with the intensity of her sadness. “Come on. I’ll give you a ride home.”
