Apart from Dace, nearly thirty warriors showed up in the end. They were the finest Transformation warriors who also happened to be the Fryees’ guardians. Dace strode outside in a towering rage under the accompaniment of those warriors. He hadn’t gone far when he noticed a stocky foreigner approaching him. A blanket of body hair covered his body and gave Dace the impression of a wild beast. That man smashed a building and reduced it into ruins with a punch.

The soldiers outside were pale with fear, their faces reflecting hopelessness. The beast's terrifying energy surged, filling the air with an oppressive presence. Overwhelmed, the soldiers turned to Tyler for guidance. "General, what should we do?" one soldier asked, panic rising in his voice. Tyler's voice was resolute, filled with killing intent. "Hold the line! Form up and strengthen the formation! We must endure!" The Ancient Ram Beast's attacks slammed into the soldiers' defensive formation, sending shockwaves through the air. Dax and I stepped out onto the catwalk beside him. Marching in perfect, horrifying synchronization up the grated ramps toward our crashed transport were a dozen Null-Troopers. Up close, they were even more intimidating. They were eight feet tall, entirely encased in thick, light-absorbing matte-grey armor. They didn't have optical visors; their heads were just solid, sloped iron plates housing localized radar arrays. They carried massive rotary-kinetic cannons slung low on their hips. "No phase-shifts," Dax reminded the pack, his voice low and dead serious. "No energy shields. Kinetic force only. You hit them in the joints, and you don't stop hitting them until they stop moving."

She didn’t stab—she just pressed a hand to the first soldier’s chest. The silver armor melted away, spilling off like water. Underneath was a guy in a t-shirt, blinking in shock.

Half of them wielded heavy underslung disintegration beams, while the other half wielded large particle repeater rifles. All of them were in sleek and robust chitinous power armor which easily protected the soldiers inside. Not just from the usual battlefield weapons, but also from the extreme heat surrounding them. In fact, the temperature was so intense that the air warped all around them. But that hardly stopped their advance. They all got into small teams of four, then ran deeper into the city itself.
