“Trash in a fancy dress. My son’s standards have fallen.”
My face burned, my hands shaking. “I’m not trash,” I shot back, standing up, my chair scraping loud against the floor. “You don’t know me.”
Wilson laughed, a cruel sound that made my skin crawl. “I know enough. You’re a street rat who tricked her way into my family. You’ll never be one of us.”
I opened my mouth, ready to tear into him, my blood boiling. “I didn’t trick anyone,” I said, my voice loud, trembling. “Your son dragged me here. If you’ve got a problem, take it up with him.”
