“You can release them as soon as we leave town. I do not think they will try to hurt you.” Arcadia sniffed, daring them to try. “What about you and Clarissa; won't they follow?” Stefan looked into Arcadia’s eyes but spoke only telepathically. “The spirit welders might follow us, but they could do that with Mr. Oliver and Evander still tied to the beds here. They do not even know they had hitchhiking parasites attached to them.” Arcadia’s eyes showed momentary surprise before the surprise was replaced with a knowing. “Cowards.” She muttered.

A pulse in the room like thunder building behind a wall. “You’re accusing your brother of treason again?” Aldric’s voice was careful, slow. “Not accusing. Exposing.” My voice broke like glass. “I’ve got a witness,” I spit out. “She followed him. Saw him leave through a secret exit—straight to Shadow Blood.” “Who?” I paused. Only a beat.
