I was dead. My sister, Mia Barlowe, who was just an intern at the hospital, killed me. After my death, my soul returned to my mother's side. My mother, Winona Barlowe, was in the middle of consoling Mia, "Don't worry, Mia. Your sister, Willow Barlowe, is a tough girl. She’s going to be fine. Come on, let me take you home to get some rest." Her eyes were filled with heartache as she looked at Mia. I have never seen her regard me with such tender affection.

I tried to explain. “Working? You call drinking with men ‘work’?” My father slammed his hand on the table as he shot to his feet. “Do you have any idea how upset Daffie is today? She posted something really important on Instagram, and you, her own sister, couldn’t even hit the ‘like’ button? Are you jealous of her?” Daphne looked up at me. Her eyes glistened with tears. “Sis, I know you’re busy. But I was honestly so happy about getting the apartment today. I just wanted to share that with my family. Do you... not approve of me buying a place of my own?”

As he returned to work, I brought him a glass of water, when he just happened to reach out. We touched each other, but he withdrew his hand first and pretended like nothing happened. "Your sister won't survive." There was no doubt about it—anyone who could be objective would be able to see that there was no hope for my sister. Even with that mysterious spell that kept her alive despite losing almost all of her blood, it was just pointless. Two weeks later, the cops found her dried-up corpse in the middle of the street, every last drop of fluid drained out of her body.

"Your sister is gone! What is going to happen to Sonny? He's only seven. He may not survive at the hands of a wicked stepmother if his father remarries!" The burning pain in my stomach lingered faintly as I stared blankly at the scene before me. All I saw was black and white. Everyone who came to mourn hung their heads and sobbed quietly. My mother, Amber Green, was kneeling on the ground and clutching the hem of my pants. She was crying her heart out.

“He won't let me get away with it? I’m his girlfriend. Who are you?” “I’m not making it up! I really am his sister!” “His sister?” She bent down and patted my cheek. “You’re facing total ruin, and you’re still lying through your teeth. Damien told me himself that his sister is currently studying abroad. She goes to an Ivy League school and plays the piano and cello. Look at you. You don’t look like you’re a Fischer.” The two men took a step closer to me. With my back pressed flat against the wall, my fingernails dug desperately into the wooden grain of the cabinet door.

I was always interested in partnering with them, but this just took my plans to another level. While I was trying to figure out a way to make them come to me, I received a call from one of our subsidiary companies. Ellis Exchange had just pitched to them to invest in their company. I smirked and ordered them to reject their offer. I called some companies that they might reach out to, and told them to reject them while calling in some favors. I waited for them to reach out to me, but they didn't. I knew they were desperate and I didn't know why they were holding back from reaching out.

Apparently food wasn't that important when she had her Ruby. After 20 minutes of pouting and squealing and cooing and purring and fake-crying and some more squealing, the phone was handed to me by my very bubbly sister who had a larger grin on her face than the big blue whale. "You done squealing and charming the firecracker out of my sister, Stone?" I asked, only to be rewarded with a chuckle. And a scoff. "You sound jealous, White. Does my poor Bubbles know that her lovely sister is green with envy because the hottest man on the planet gave his attention to her?" I could literally hear his smugness heavily dripping from his tone and overflowing in his car.
