My eyes slowly moved to spot the velvet-covered book and something written on it with golden ink that shined in the light coming through the open window. Despite thinking to ignore it at first, I found myself walking towards it a few moments later. Something about leaving this book without looking through it did not feel right to me, it just made me feel some sort of anxiousness I was not ready to deal with. To my surprise, it opens. "What the ...?" I whisper. Alec steps in front of me, pushing the door open all the way. He takes a step inside, and I follow. The inside of the warehouse is creepy too. The floors are covered in dust and cobwebs, and all the furniture is overturned and broken. But despite the mess, it's obvious that somebody is living here. There are candles burning in the corners, and there's a mattress in the back corner. I can see clothes draped over an old chair, and a pile of books stacked against the wall.

And just like that, the covers of all four books–Nyllan’s complete works–were suddenly before me. The first book held the cover image of a seedling, a plant in its infancy; at birth. Anything that could give him answers. He stopped in the mythology and local folklore section. His eyes were drawn to an old, worn-looking book with a cover made of untitled leather. As if a magnet were pulling his hand, he reached for it. The book opened by itself to a certain page. The illustration there made his blood freeze. It was a drawing of a handsome man with eyes shining like a predator, standing over a pile of corpses, with a dark, horned shadow shape stretching out behind him. Below the image was one word in ancient script that he somehow knew how to read: MORAT.

The book arrives in boxes on a Tuesday morning. "Always" is printed on the spine. My name is on the cover. The subtitle reads: "Thirty Years of Choosing Love." The photograph on the cover is of Dominic and me in the garden holding hands. It's simple and real and it's exactly what the book is. I open one of the boxes and I hold a copy in my hands. This is the book about what comes after. This is the documentation of sustained choosing. This is the thing I've been working toward for months. It's finally real. It's finally out in the world.
