I put my arms around his neck and whined for him to go with me for a checkup at the hospital. He was a male chauvinist with a great ego, so he had always been reluctant to get a checkup in the past. But now, maybe because age had caught up with him and he really wanted a child, he agreed hesitantly. I took the responsibility for arranging everything. Patrick gladly let me handle it, as he couldn't be bothered and carried on with his life. Meanwhile, I installed a surveillance camera in Lucille's room. I realized that she was really behaving and taking good care of herself and the baby. Samuel was the only man who set foot in the house.

Christopher shouted— “WHY DOES EVERY CHAPTER END WITH SHOOTING?!” ⸻ Alina fired at the approaching soldiers. Elias dragged someone behind cover. Turn them off.” One day, he chuckled, while teasing my nipples with his fingers. “Why? Let’s watch this footage later.” “Shut up! Don’t even think about touching me if you won’t turn them off,” I snapped, pushing his hand away. He never stopped laughing. The crooked grin on his face returned. Tossing the remote toward me, he said, “Do it yourself, then.”

I could see a deer as it ate something off the ground in the forest that surrounded the house. I sat down at the controls and looked at each of the labels. I flipped the switch of camera one. The front door camera turned off. I flipped it back on. I moved to the next camera; I tested out each of them before all of the cameras inside the house were turned off. I left the cameras that surrounded the house on. I may need them if anyone approaches. At least now I had some privacy. My phone buzzed. It was a text from M1. “Paranoid?”

“I prefer you undone. There’s something beautiful about a blade before it cuts.” —F Her pulse flicked in her throat. She tilted her head toward the camera, every move dripping with calculated vulnerability. “I’m tired of pretending,” she said aloud. “Tired of holding the leash. What if I just let go?” She reached for the chain. Wrapped it once around her wrist. Tugged gently. The feed erupted. Hearts. Moans. Obsession. But she didn’t watch the chat. She was watching the shadows. At exactly 12:07 AM, the stream glitched.

Vicktor, as if hearing us, stands from his chair and looks closely at Clara; he shifts her hair from her face and tucks it behind her ears. "The camera!" I hold my breath, waiting for whatever is about to happen. Victor leans his eyes closely to look directly at us through the camera, a hint of a devilish grin on his lips. He lifts his hands high and uses them to slap the camera off Rachel's face, and everything goes blank. We stare at the blank screen for a while before texting our team the pickup location and hurrying away. WEST'S POV

My fingers found their way into his hair, pulling him closer, as I rolled with the rhythm. Until— Flash. The sudden burst of white light seared through my closed eyes. I blinked, dazed, the afterimage dancing in my vision. A camera. I saw it in the reflection of the glass door—someone had taken a photo. Must be the videographer. I gasped and pushed him away, breath short, heart in my throat. “Someone took a picture,” I whispered, mortified. He stepped forward, reaching for me, but I took a shaky step back. “I didn’t mean to—I wasn’t supposed to—”

A short, sharp sound that drew no attention from no one. Except me of course. He turned to me and I nodded. A split second later, I leaped up, my fingers twitching as my claws slid out from beneath my skin. The CCTV camera was my first target, and I made sure to strike it blind in just a single attempt. Sparks popped as the feed died, leaving the small cell clocked in eerie quiet. David nodded. It was freaking time. He growled low, and his claws burst forth, shimmering under the flickering ceiling light.

“He’s pulling out something from his pocket.” We watched in a uniform state of confusion as he unfolded what looked like a piece of paper with deliberate movements. Why was he purposely doing this in front of a surveillance camera? I got my answer soon enough and I wish I hadn’t. The fear that washed through me as the Shadow leaned forward and placed the paper on the camera efficiently pushed my numbness back into place. STOP DIGGING. The paper read. Then he deactivated that camera too.
