Instantly, her form shimmered and shrank until she became a bright, glimmering fairy once more.
She began to twirl mid-air, her wings scattering golden dust that swirled like fireflies caught in a whirlwind. Her hands moved in strange, fluid gestures, as if she were weaving something unseen. The book pulsed with light, each beat brighter, hotter, more alive.
Then she called out, “By the way, this is my first time doing this, so pardon any mistakes!”
“What?!”
But I didn’t get the chance to finish. The book flared. And then I was falling.
