Cars passed, puddles splashed, neon signs flickered. She started walking toward the bus stop. Then she saw it. A figure — half-hidden under a streetlight. Standing still. Watching her. Same black suit. Same silence. Her wolf rose instantly, warning loud in her chest. She took a step back, ready to run — but a voice behind her made her freeze. “Going somewhere, Miss Hale?” She turned. Jasper was there — umbrella in hand, raincoat buttoned. So, Mr. Hale, don’t feel grateful.” Jasper was silent for a long while, then muttered, “…Oh…” If this had been before, if someone talked to him like that, he would have thrown a fit. Xavier said he would pick us up and I was hoping there would be no cops with him. I was pleasantly surprised when it was just him. “Welcome back to La La Land,” He grinned. “I don’t know how I feel about being back,” I admitted. “Got my heart broken here.” “You and me both.
