I watched Rhyker standing behind the counter and flipped the scrambled eggs with his pan, he was shirtless and wore a white apron with black joggers. He had one particular tattoo on the back of his neck, it's a drawing of a crown, the crown of Rosla. He whistled while making scrambled eggs. "Are you awake Hemilia? I'm sorry I wasn't in our bed, I wanted to make breakfast for you." He said not looking at me, I gawked at his strong and broad back that is able to give comforting hugs from him. "What's the special occasion?" I chuckled and walked toward him, he turned around and smiled.

Somewhere below, she heard a child’s cough. "Elara!" She scrambled forward, her hands scraping through muck and moss, until her fingers touched something soft and small. Elara. Aria pulled her daughter into her arms, checking for injuries. Elara's eyes fluttered open. She was dazed but breathing. "I’m okay," she whispered. "But she’s *here*." Aria froze. Not from fear. From realization. The Hollow was awake. She rose slowly, Elara held close, and looked around. The chamber was vast. Stone walls curved upward into infinity. Bone and root wove through the architecture like veins. Dim red light glowed from fissures in the stone, casting everything in sick crimson.

“Then we get them first. And we break their hold on Rollan.” Caden’s hand brushed hers, a silent promise. “We’ll need a strategy. They won’t let us go quietly.” Before Kael could reply, a sharp hum pierced the air, and the orb blazed brighter, casting harsh shadows. The floor quaked subtly, and a chilling howl reverberated from the corridors beyond. Elara’s face drained of color. “The Hollow Ones. They’ve tracked us.” Torren unsheathed his daggers, his body coiled for action. “How many?”

I’d asked her not to stand beside me. Not yet, Not until this ended. Not until I knew who would survive it. Maelen was already there when I arrived — arms crossed, expression carved from stone, a picture of control. He offered me no greeting, no accusation. But his eyes? They knew I knew. The Hollow twisted unnaturally before kicking Kael backward into a tree hard enough to crack the bark. “Kael!” The creature turned toward me immediately. Its glowing eyes locked onto mine. And then.. It whispered my name. Ice flooded my veins. “How does it know who I am?” The Hollow took one slow step forward. Then another. “You carry the ruin,” it said, its voice distorted and broken. “So the ruin calls to us.” I scrambled backward.

And before anyone could move, the shadows rippled — taking form, twisting upward into a faint, humanoid outline with eyes that burned a deep, sickly green. The Order’s warriors stumbled back. Marek raised his sword. “Eloria—what the hell is that?” Eloria’s lips parted slightly, her pulse steady but her voice a whisper: “Not what… who.” The wind howled, and the shadow’s voice slithered through the clearing. “The Hollow never dies… it just waits for the next breath.” The ground split open beneath their feet. A scream tore through the forest — and the light from Eloria’s staff burst outward in a violent flash of violet flame.

But echoes had power. Zara knew it. She felt it in the threads she wove late at night, the fragile shimmer that connected her to what was lost. Every time she reached for Elira’s essence, the echo snapped back, hungrier, sharper, like claws scraping along the weave. She feared the Hollow had not died—it had only learned patience.

I quip as I focus on the other gaping wounds, trying my best to hold up with the rumblings now ensuing next and sending the entire cavern in a violent quake. “Um, Sorah,” Olav calls hesitantly and I turn his way to see him gulping and keeping his eyes on the floor. “The floor is acting strangely- We’re sinking in.”
