A sense of respect in their eyes, business tycoons, politicians, and powerful people hung on her every word. Damon's jaw clenched. Her capacity to simultaneously make others feel little and significant had caused him to witness it all before. But now, it was unique. He had no question she was untouchable. He wasn't only observing her achievement; he was experiencing it. And dang it, it hurt. Mr. Blackwood, you look preoccupied. Jaxon's voice pierced his musings. Though the words hardly registered, Damon turned to face his old friend. He was still looking at Lillian.

" He said. I was not ready for that. I was still getting use to the idea of being alone. I still need to heal. "My name Shunshine. I'm not really interested in getting to know anyone right now." I said. "Can't blame a brother for trying." He replied back with a smile. I almost gave in. He hand me a business call and told me to call him if i change my mind. i looked at the card and saw that he was a mr. fix it man. He fixed on houses and appliances.

And still, my husband never touched me. When the frustration finally became unbearable, when the silence grew heavier than words, he opened up to me. He told me he had erectile dysfunction caused by a heart condition. He said the doctors advised abstinence. He looked ashamed when he said it, and I believed him completely. I wrapped my arms around him that night and told him I would wait for him as long as it took. I waited. What I didn’t understand, what no one told me, was that he had already been “cured” for eight months before he ever confessed anything to me.

Nia said finally. Margaux nodded. "And Gerald is not to be touched," Nia added. "He has a system." Margaux looked at the plant on the windowsill. "Understood," she said. And something in her voice was almost almost warm in a way that did not feel performed. Almost.

“I’ve been trying to reach you for hours!” I didn’t flinch. I’ve had years of practice dealing with Lucas’ temper. His anger wasn’t my concern....it was what triggered it. “I told you,” I said, exhaling as I sat on the armrest of the couch. “Today’s my no-contact gym day. No phone. No mind-link. Just me, my sweat, and the iron.” I shrugged. Lucas folded both his arms "oh, really. What if Pookie was in trouble and needed to reach you?"

Nothing more. When I still didn’t answer, Caspar shook his head, walking past me with Olive clutching his shoulder. “Ungrateful,” he muttered. He disappeared into the house along with Olive. Cedric lingered for a moment longer. “For now,” he said coolly, “you are an Untouchable. Start acting like one.” “And what is that supposed to entail?” I asked. But he was already gone, shutting the cottage door in my face. Just as I was reaching for the handle, I heard the lock click.

The chair: the closest thing to success, and even that had ended with me studying the wall while he stepped past me at close range and said thank you in the voice of a man accepting ordinary help with an ordinary chair. The problem, I decided, was not my intentions. The problem was that Julien was a very composed person who gave very little away, and I was apparently a person who, under mild romantic pressure, became someone who knocked over houseplants and made sustained eye contact with walls. I was still working out a different approach when Lucas solved the problem for me, as he occasionally did, in his entirely unconscious way.
