I panicked, realizing I’d been holding the sprig of Milk Thorn for who knew how long, my palm wet from crushing the plant in my grip. "Stupid!" I hissed. "How could I—" I cut myself off, trying to pull together a makeshift antidote. Willow’s Bane for pain, turmeric for swelling, aloe to soothe the skin... and a mud pack to draw out the toxins. I’d never actually treated Milk Thorn before but we trained pack members about it like so many other ailments. Satisfied with my hasty concoction, I left the potted herbs near the fountain for tomorrow but kept a couple of sprigs of Willow’s Bane for myself. It was going to be a long night.

Their venom alone is deadly but when it is mixed with crushed night roots and fermented under a specific moon cycle, it becomes Morveth Draught.” My jaw tightened. “The herb I mentioned contains a natural compound that breaks the venom structure in the poison,” she replied. “Without it, the poison continues spreading until the organs fail.” I looked at Summer again. “Who the hell would use something like this on a child?” I muttered angrily. Leslie did not answer.

Plopping onto the sole cathedra, I was tapping my hands on the arms. "It's pretty simple. I want you to search for an antidote for poison hemlock." I finally broke the thick air of silence that enveloped the living room. Jackson who stood in front of the small fleet gathered whipped his head up so sharply I thought it would snap, his straight brows arched. "Poison hemlock? Those are deadly. But we don't know of the antidote." He replied with a curt bow. "Annalise says it's Melathionapalm. It's in the woods, it's a bluish green plant found near our hunting grounds." I said again, leaning into the chair. "You have two days to find it. Jackson, you stay here."

Everywhere she went, she was told the same thing. “Is there anything else I… I mean, I can give my friend to use?” Mæra asked. The old woman squinted and rummaged through her wares. She pulled out a small vial and placed it in Mæra’s hand, “this should help your friend.” Mæra nodded but gazed on the vial with deep distrust. The herb she took was called The Lady's slipper and it was considered rarer than gold but was very easy to find in Vælmont where she had served before coming here.

And the leaves can treat minor burns, but not major ones.” She widened her eyes like I was giving her forbidden information, and I giggled a little. We moved from plant to plant, with me explaining which ones made good balms, which ones were dangerous, which ones had dual purposes. But then, as we walked past several tall plants with shimmering blue veins, I paused because I had never seen these before. They weren’t in the werewolf realm. Not in the wild or in our academies, so were they biologically engineered? Or just native to the Lycan realm?

In this moment, it looked like a slice of heaven. Milo was rolling around in a patch of wildflowers. Amerie spotted a patch of balsamroot surrounded by the other flowers. They looked like miniature sunflowers. Amerie pulled out the yellow flower petal that had fallen on her earlier and realized it was from a balsamroot flower. She foraged a few to bring back to the house. They had many medicinal properties and were never a bad thing to have around.
