You can’t just…” Katherine held up a hand, silencing her. “But there’s a catch.” She continued, her gaze shifting back to Mr. Hall, “The loser will have to marry Zade’s brother, Jade.”

“Yes. And I need you. You’re the only one that can help me execute it.” Carolina raised an eyebrow, half skeptical, half intrigued. “Okay… what’s the plan?” Katherine hesitated, then took a breath. “I want you to go to Kingsley’s house… and apply for a maid job there.” Carolina blinked slowly as if trying to process whether this was a joke. “I’m sorry—what?” “I’m serious,” Katherine said quickly. “I want you to apply for a housekeeping job there. A live-in, preferably.” Carolina recoiled slightly, hands in the air. “What is the ‘Mission Impossible’ kind of madness is this? Katherine—be serious.”

Oh, why did Tyler have to kill him? Why? Katherine quietly crept down the stairs and walked over to the coat rack. Taking a large umbrella from it, she tiptoed to the kitchen, hardly daring to breathe for fear the vampires would hear her.

A hush fell over the room again. All eyes turned to Katherine, whose world had just begun to splinter. “My dearest husband, Massimo, has told me so much about all of you,” Kassandra said, smiling sweetly, though the glint in her eyes was anything but kind. “Don’t mind my dramatic entrance… It's a pleasure to meet you all. Well… not all of you.” Her gaze flicked pointedly to Katherine. “Welcome, love,” Massimo said, wheeling his chair closer to Kassandra and pulling her into a kiss. The two locked lips, unbothered by the stunned silence that fell over the table.
