Elder Virel pressed him backward, steel raining down in rapid strikes.
“You are weakened,” Virel said between blows. “You carved out the one thing that could have been your anchor.” Riven blocked, blocked, blocked, then he let one strike slip past deliberately. Virel saw the opening and committed fully.
That was his mistake. Riven stepped into the attack instead of away from it, he let the blade slice across his ribs shallow, controlled and in that same motion…
He drove his own weapon straight through Virel’s abdomen, the sound was sickening. The arena went silent.
