It depends on your workflow. Do you revise as you go, or do you write a complete messy draft and then revise? If you revise as you go, you need minute-to-minute tracking to recover yesterday's phrasing you tweaked. If you do full-draft passes, you might only need to save a new version at the end of each pass. The software should fit your method, not force you to adapt to its idea of what a 'revision' should be.
