It was only a brief moment, but I would recognize that tattoo anywhere. On the left peck of the man's chest, swirling ink formed a huge snowflake with a snarling wolf. I knew that picture. It was the sigil of house Caldore. I had seen it in books and read about it in stories. The older witches whispered it in the tales they told my village at night. Wolves with hearts as cold as ice and skin that snow melts upon. I was in Northwood, and what was worse was that I knew the man who was rummaging angrily through the books in his room. I should have realized it the moment I saw his glowing blue eyes.

Back corners happen to be my favorite. There aren't many books on Waindale—three or four at most. I pick up one and skim through, but the majority of its contents are too focused around city planning. I grab another, and it covers all towns in Washington. Waindale has a page. Where it's fun facts are supposed to be is only a single, scrawny sentence. Waindale, the town saved by wolves. My lips part. My heart speeds up, and I read the sentence over again. That can't be it! Saved by wolves? What does that mean? Did the author feel no need to explain?

She stood up, walked towards the window behind her, and reflected on the past. "The sacrifices of the Walden women trying to keep ownership come with a great price. What most woman wants are love and family. Walden women choose a different path. We never marry. Female firstborn entitlement of the castle ends when she marries. She loses everything after marriage." The strange Walden law is foolish, but it helps his plan.

"Walden!" Celia was shocked. She turned the wheelchair to the door while crying and shouting. Regardless of the inconvenience on her legs, she knelt on the ground and picked up Walden. "Somebody! Come on! Walden, how are you feeling? Don't scare me! It's all my fault. Wake up! Savannah is your daughter. She will always be your daughter!" Walden had completely lost consciousness, and he would not wake up no matter how Celia cried out.

“You know you don’t have to repopulate the werewolf race all by yourself, right?” “Oh shut up and give me a hug,” Willow says, throwing her arms open. Zael laughs and gives her a brief hug. He stays well clear of Kane. “The war is over.” “I saw,” Kane says. “Why are you here?” “You’ll need help. I’m here to offer it.” “The imprint…I don’t know if we should risk it.” Zael waves the words away and pulls a jade talisman out of his shirt. “Alfred made it for me. It blocks the...impulses.”

The disappointment in her eyes and disapproval in her voice, when mentioning Isolde. The kids and everyone watch the screen as we open gifts, enjoying seeing the things we got way back then. Things they've never heard of. I got a bear that you can color on then wash and do it again. Val immediately asks Wyatt if she can have one. He told her he would see, but I hate to break it to her, he probably won't find one. As everyone watches us and discusses the gifts on the screen, my thoughts turn to Isolde.

"Well if you must know, I didn't bring a purse.* Circling her waist, I open the hidden compartment beside the minibar and take out the brand new and latest Kindle I bought for her. I pass it to her. "Here." *You bought me a Kindle? she asks, amazed. "Why? I already have one." 'I bought one for each of my cars so you don't have to worry about carrying it everywhere. Or forgetting like you do with your phone." "That's really thoughtful of you daddy," she whispers breathlessly. clutching the e-reader tighter. The city lights dancing on her face. "'i pay y-"
