Nathan approached, shifting back into his human form, wincing as he clutched his reopened shoulder wound. Despite the pain, a look of profound relief washed over his face as he looked at Sophia. “Thank the ancestors,” he muttered, leaning against the altar for support.
Sophia looked up at him through her tears, reaching out a hand to touch his uninjured arm. “Nathan… you’re alive. They said they killed you.”
“Takes more than a few mangy rogues to put me down, Luna,” Nathan managed a weak, characteristic smirk, though his eyes remained watchful, scanning the perimeter.
