I look into his bright blue eyes. "Promise." Blake's POV: Walking through the school doors, I curse out loud. I'm late. I don't know what happened. I was having this dream, a dream that I don't even remember. It was about something that seemed important. So important that it made me sleep through my alarm. I walk further down the halls, almost turning down another until I hear voices. Everyone should be in class. I stop just at the corner, hiding myself from whoever is skipping class behind the wall. Putting my ear as close as I can, I eavesdrop to figure out who it is. You never know who's out here, whoever it is, they might snitch.

I washed off the sweat and spent the rest of the day in the library hiding. I had dinner in the bedroom and I hoped he wouldn’t come up until I was fast asleep. As soon as I was done eating, I burrowed under the covers and I went straight to sleep. But sleep didn’t grant me an escape from the desires that haunted me. King Leonidas was in my dream, touching me and driving me crazy. I woke up with a gasp, sitting at the center of the bed, heart beating fast and the heat between my legs burning fiercely.

Only in this endless darkness could he tear off his disguise and let himself feel the painful wound in his heart. The dream was still sharp in my mind. In the dream, I was standing in a dark forest. The trees were tall and twisted, their branches like claws. I called out Star’s name, but my voice echoed and vanished. Then I saw him. My little boy. He was running, his small legs moving as fast as they could, but something was chasing him. A shadow. A huge figure with glowing red eyes. It reached for him, and when I tried to run, my feet sank into the ground like mud.

That’s when I always woke up, covered in a cold sweat. ‘Calm down,’ I scolded myself. ‘Your secret is safe.’ Standing up and stretching, I took solace in the fact that at least it hadn’t been the other dream. That dream always rattled me to my core, far worse than the accident dream. In the ‘other’ dream, Zoe sat on a couch, in a white lace dress, her face pale and her eyes empty. “Where have you hidden my parents?” Zoe’s small voice asked. “I want my Mama.”

It cannot be past six pm, yet all of us have eyes heavy like lead weight. I feed Lora and place her down in her crib and then I sandwich myself between Khai and Theo on the bed. My head on Theo's chest and Khai plastered behind me. Theo plays with my hair until I fall asleep, my eyes drooping repeatedly as my vision darkens for sleep to take me. And with sleep comes a dream. What was your dream about?” Ashley whispered as she moved to sit on the side of the bed, rubbing her hand over her face. “Bad guys came in and got us,” DJ answered, as he started to cry again. “It’s okay, Baby, no bad guys will come in here, you don’t need to worry about that. Come on, let’s get you back to bed,” Ashley whispered, standing up and taking his hand.

Dom was still in a safe house, and from what the captain implied, he wasn’t happy having to stay out of sight. She sighed and watched out the window. It was snowing again, and she felt as heavy as the snowflakes looked. She had tried to connect with Dominic several times in the last week, but hadn’t been able to. She wasn’t sure why she couldn’t. The captain had said he had been exhausted and spent a few days resting more than anything, but now he was working the case with them. Did he have her blocked again? She was wishing she had asked him more questions on this thing that they were able to do. It wasn’t as if she could just search for it on the internet. What would she search? C
