The giant screen took up half the wall, and the plush L-shaped couch was more bed than sofa—lined with blankets, pillows, and a tray of snacks Shane insisted we wouldn’t touch but had brought anyway.
He let me pick the movie. I chose something light and absurd—an old action-comedy with questionable stunts and dramatic monologues—because I didn’t want anything serious.
Not tonight. Not after everything.
Shane sat beside me, close, but not crowding me yet.
We laughed at the ridiculous chase scenes, sipped wine, and kept nudging each other with harmless little jabs.
