The whispers followed me.

Baron tried to continue, but his voice cracked. His hands trembled as he turned the pages of his Bible.
“Let us read from John chapter eight,” he said, his tone forced. “Verses ten and eleven.”
He hesitated, swallowed, and continued. “‘When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?’”
