I asked quietly.
In response, Poppy took off, running towards the door. She began scratching at the door, barking. Pulling the covers aside, I rose to my feet and walked barefoot to the door. Poppy looks up at me, still scratching at the door. "Okay, step aside, and let's go see what's happening," I said, grabbing the doorknob. Poppy wagged his tail happily. "You should know that Black people don't investigate suspicious things, Poppy. We run the other way. You're making me abandon my roots," she only yipped.
