“Except nothing was beautiful. Not really.” The truth burned my tongue. My chest rose and fell with uneven breaths, the ache of unshed tears burning at the back of my eyes. “I loved you,” I said, the confession slipping out before I could stop it. “You knew that I was loyal to you. You knew that I was yours. I gave myself to you completely, and yet I couldn’t help but feel like I was nothing but your new playmate.”

“Maybe we don’t tell our parents that we’re fucking. How about we tell them that we’re in love with each other. That I’m in love with you.” Sophia’s back stiffens as she stops in her tracks and turns to me in surprise. “What?” She whispers with a hopeful look on her face. Without hesitation, I stride up to her and look her in the eyes. “I know we haven’t really been together for long, but I love you, Sophia. I have for a long time. Do you still love me?” At first, I think that she’s not going to answer. Then, her face lights up, and she throws her arms around me. “I never stopped loving you, Micah. I love you so much!”

Someone who never even wanted to love me. “I never took it because The Others told me to leave it right where it was until the right time. It just so happened they didn’t need it until now. They only reached back out to me recently, within the last month. I had forgotten all about them after all these years… And honestly, I did fall in love with you. I am still in love with you.” She said and burst out into tears again.

His gaze slides from the road to me, assessing and cool. When he doesn’t answer, I make my move, snatching the gun he set down in the console between us and pointing it at him. I put every bit of steel I have into my voice. “Pull over.” Annoyance flickers across his expression and his hand flashes out. I don’t mean to—but I don’t have time to think. I just pull the trigger. I scream at my own mistake, drowning out the sound of the shot. No, wait. There wasn’t a deafening bang.

I held her in limbo as I awaited my answer. "I love you. I've always loved you. I never stopped loving you, and I'll always be in love with you." She admitted. The moment the words were out of her mouth, it was as if I'd been struck with lightning. The love of my life loves me back. The feeling was truly euphoric. Even better than the first time I had ever heard those words from her beautiful mouth.

I let out my honest feelings. “I understand, and I’ll listen to you and be there for you, just like I was there for you when the whole thing with your brother went down—“ “When you told me you loved me?” Christian chuckled. “Yes.” I nodded. “That was the first time I told you I loved you.”

“I’ll send someone to get you those painkillers.” “I love you,” I told them through our bond.

Then, I made things clear to him. "But I don't love you anymore."

“I am sorry… I seem to hurt you every time we are together…. Maybe I d-don’t deserve you… Maybe you’ll be better off without me…” I cupped his cheek as I whispered, “P-please, don’t leave me… please don’t die on me like this or I s-swear, I’ll follow you. I love you. I remember what happened, how I hurt you... and I want to tell you I didn’t mean to. I want to tell you how much I loved you. And still do. I didn’t betray you… I j.. just d-didn’t have a choice…” A soft crunch of the snow had my head jerking up.

The words spilled out of me, raw and unfiltered, finally breaking free from the depths of my heart. Her eyes widened, and for a moment, everything around us seemed to freeze. She looked at me, shock etched across her features, and I couldn't decipher if that was a good sign or a bad one. Despite the uncertainty, I felt a surge of emotion pushing me to continue. "Yes, I know it’s crazy and sudden, but I love you, Tamara. You’ve been amazing to me and I’ve never felt this much happy with anyone else before."
