MOON OF ASHES
Its shriek rattled the air, and the wolves outside scattered, tails tucked, as if even they would not challenge this thing.
Mara was the first to strike. Her spear found the creature’s shoulder, and it roared, the sound shaking the ground beneath their feet. Caleb leapt forward to drive his blade into its ribs, but the Wild swatted him away like a ragdoll, slamming him against the cave wall. His scream cut short, replaced with a grunt of pain.
“Hold the line!” Silas bellowed, his voice carrying over the chaos. He swung his iron-edged axe, cleaving into the Wild’s chest. The beast staggered but didn’t fall. Its black eyes locked on him, burning with hunger.
