Studying my surroundings for the first time, I realized that I’d gone much further into the wild than I’d intended and wasn’t altogether sure of the direction I’d walked in. The adrenaline that coursed through my veins as my mind whirled with scenes from all of the horror shows I’d watched over the years where monsters or predatory wildlife hunted humans in the woods and did unspeakable things to them, including eating them, caused my bladder to threaten to give way on its own if I didn’t immediately empty it. Seeing no alternative, I dropped my pants to my ankles and squatted where I stood.

I was walking through the Poison Mist forest at night with a torch and looking for the plants or animals that might have antidotes to the poison. By the light of the flickering fire, I quickly identified the plants I saw. The books World Geography and Medicine Encyclopedia were a big help. I was able to identify most of the plant names and confirm whether they had medicinal value. The book Warrior Combat Skills also helped me a lot. It taught me how to avoid dangerous creatures that hide in the dark. With a torch in my left hand and a dagger in my right, I kept my ears alert for any sounds around me and carefully avoided the nests of wild animals.

Intrigued, i decided to take the book back to the cabin to show Nikau. When i arrived back at the cabin, i excitedly showed Nikau the book, telling him all about the strange symbols and images that i had seen. Nikau was equally intrigued by the book, but nikau said that he would be leaving to check out on the pack for a few days. He asked me not to join him as he would be travelling in his wolf form. After he left, I settled into my cozy spot by the fireplace in the cabin, I opened the old book I had checked out from the library. The title, "The Lost Village of Ravenswood", immediately caught my attention and I was eager to learn more about this mysterious place.

He chuckled as if to say we hadn't even heard half of it, "And then there was the time I got lost in a snowstorm. I had to take shelter in a cave, and I spent the night huddled next to a fire, listening to the wolves howl outside." Aiden's voice piped up in curiosity. Tonight, he insisted on staying close to my side and I thought it was nice of him. "How did you manage to survive?" Mr. Jenkins grinned, "Well, I've spent years honing my wilderness skills. I know how to navigate, find food, and start a fire without matches. But I'll tell you, it was a harrowing experience." As he spoke, I was captivated by his stories. The smell of wet forest after a long rain and sun heated honey, wakes me from my sleep. I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to escape by now, but nothing I do seems to work. More and more wolves are going missing, if Tam’s growing hysteria is anything to go by.

The forest became my world, a shifting maze of trees and shadows where I learned what it meant to survive. I drank from cold streams, stole warmth from abandoned dens, and ate what I could trap or forage. My wolf, weakened by rejection, stirred sluggishly inside me, but she was there. We leaned on each other the way wounded things do. She lent me strength when my body failed and I gave her hope when despair crept close. Days blurred into nights. I learned to hide my scent, rolling in river mud, masking it with crushed herbs and wild mint. I learned the ways of rogues: how to move without leaving prints, how to listen for danger in the spaces between silence.

Finn, the apparent leader of this abduction, leaned down over her, his eyes gleaming in the light of the fire. “There’s no one to hear you scream, and if you utter a sound, I’ll rattle your jaw.” She nodded her understanding and crawled to an upright position. He nudged her backside with his boot and chuckled when she whirled around in outrage. “There’s a blanket by the fire. Get on it and get some sleep. We leave at first light.”

"Ah, it's coming back to me. Have you ever read 'Village Wilderness'?" It was a story about a young woman's harrowing experience in the mountains, not the typical read for someone like Xoan. Nonetheless, he nodded, a surprising admission. "Yes, I've read it." "Really?" He explained, "A friend of mine wrote it. Asked me to give it a once-over, so I ended up reading the whole thing." "Remember any of it?"

Wild got a new read today. The Incredible Journey is what it was called, and it was the story of two dogs and a cat trying to go home to their humans by crossing the Himalayan mountains. They faced many dangers and hardships, but eventually, they got home. It was a heartwarming story that Wild enjoyed while he waited for Elaine and Jon to get back to the facility. It was nothing like Call of the Wild or White Fang, but the kinship was much appreciated, so he liked it. It reminded him of his own kin that he was going to save, one way or another.
