For a while, I simply sat on the edge of the bed, thinking, trying not to panic… trying so hard not to imagine what would have happened if Riven hadn’t arrived in time to save me. Eventually, I decided I needed some water, and maybe a bit of distraction from my haunting thoughts. The place was quiet as I stepped into the tiny hallway, except for the voices coming from the next room… the one Riven said he would be in. The door wasn’t fully closed, and at first, I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop on their conversation. But then I heard Riven’s angry voice. “…those bastards are becoming even bolder by the day!” Another voice answered immediately.

Chapter Seventy-Six Irene’s POV Zane shoved the small vial into my hand at dawn. “Blood rite from the rival witch. Cut him during a weak moment. It’ll drag fragments of the real Devon back up. Make it count.” I hid it in my sleeve and walked into the hall like I still had a spine.

Kael said in a whispering tone. Riven swallowed, hard. He could feel Kael’s breath on his cheek. “I-I’m not that guy anymore.” he stammered. Kael stared at him then let him go. “No,” he said. “You’re worse.” **** Sleep didn’t come for Riven again that night,or.. he chased it away. The wind howled outside and the walls were giving off a moaning tone. Then—a knock..Riven got startled.-Another knock. This time he started searching for the closest weapon he could get. He found an old rusted sickle by the fireplace and held it firmly before going for the door.

Evelyn stands, winking at me before slipping out. The nurse sets the basin on a nearby table. “My name is Marissa. I’m an AQUA, and I will be healing your wound.” Her voice is robotic, detached, as if she’s done this a thousand times before. “Please raise your arm so I can examine it.” I lift my arm, revealing the angry red-and-purple bruise spreading across my ribs. She barely reacts—like she’s seen much worse. With a simple gesture, the water in the basin rises into the air, forming a hovering sphere above my injury. As it sinks onto my skin, an icy sensation spreads through my body, deep into my bones. The pain fades, melting away with the water.

Raven whimpers trying to breathe with blood pooling at the edges of her mouth as I do my best to not panic at her condition. “Raven stay with me!” I nearly panic dropping her into the snow then shift feeling that I am losing her. She whimpers and trembles as I press my head against hers before licking her wounds healing her as she cries. Raven flinches and cries out in pain when I lick the giant jagged wound over her ribs that is making it difficult for her to breathe. “Breathe and relax,” I link while staring into her dark obsidian eyes trying to get her to focus on healing instead of her fear and pain.

Something irreparable had been destroyed between us. But instead of me to get consumed by the overpowering desire to follow him, I fisted my palms. I didn’t know why Riven had such an effect on me but I was going to find out. One way or another. I started where I always start, research. At first I thought it was going to be easy, I mean…how hard could it be to find out about Riven? But I was wrong. Riven was an anomaly. No records of him before Lupinemore. No family name worth remembering.

“He can care from across the room. I’m not a damsel.” I see the shield go over her eyes and recognize the action. She's protecting her, but from what? We’re guided toward the seating area, and that’s when I notice him. Riven. Large. Scarred. Radiating authority like it’s stitched into his bones. Rhys’s brother—though the resemblance is more in presence than in features. Where Rhys is controlled tension, Riven is blunt force. His golden yellow eyes are set, a male on a mission, as he moves to sit beside Tirianna.

“Fine. But don’t cry when you realize you need me.” In the next second, my chest burned hot, and a swirl of black mist curled out from my skin. Riven stepped out first, tall, muscular, dark-eyed, with his usual cocky grin plastered on his lips. Dax came out next, his aura calm and quiet, his green eyes flickering with sadness as he stood beside Riven. I exhaled shakily, finally feeling alone in my body again. My wolf stretched out fully in my body, purring and finally having space to himself.

he said, staring at Mae with devastation written across his face. Riven crashed through the opposite hatch a heartbeat later. His wings burst open before he could control them, larger than Mae remembered seeing them, silver and black and edged in stormlight that cracked against the ceiling. He stumbled, caught himself, then looked at her as if he had found and lost her in the same second. The humor that belonged on his face was gone. “You don’t remember us,” he said.
