Everest froze, and the mug slipped from her fingers, shattering against the tiled floor. Kali swore under her breath, her eyes darting between Caleb and me like she was searching for a reason not to believe us.
“What do you mean taken?” Kali’s voice rose, sharp and jagged. She turned toward us, and I stood my ground, though her glare felt like it could cut straight through me.
“We picked up the scent,” Caleb cut in, calm but firm, like he was trying to hold the room together with sheer force of will. “Those two witches, Twax and Iza were there. And…” He hesitated, his jaw tightening. “Something else.”
